Apollo AyuVAID Approach for Stroke Rehabilitation

Apollo AyurVAID’s management of stroke follows an integrative approach that combines the strengths of Ayurveda and modern medicine to deliver better outcomes. Key aspects include –

  • We conduct a comprehensive health assessment to evaluate the functional and co-morbid conditions of affected systems and the stages of disease progression following a stroke, supplemented by blood tests and other laboratory investigations as needed.
  • Our Integrative Stroke Rehabilitation Program identifies the root cause of the condition using our protocols, addressing neuro-cognitive dysfunction, reducing inflammation, and restoring sensory-motor functions.
  • Ayurveda physicians and therapists provide end-to-end rehabilitation care while closely monitoring neurological and other health parameters throughout the recovery process.

Key Causes

Hypertension

High blood pressure significantly increases the risk of stroke by causing artery damage, rupturing blood vessels, and forming clots, leading to blockages and ischemic stroke.

Cardiac Disorders

Heart conditions like Atrial Fibrillation, heart valve disease, or heart failure increase stroke risk by forming blood clots that block blood vessels, causing an ischemic stroke.

Diabetes

Poorly managed diabetes increases stroke risk due to blood vessel damage, complications such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and blood clots blocking brain blood vessels.

Lifestyle Factors

Smoking increases atherosclerosis, blood vessel clotting, and stroke risk. Obesity, linked to high blood pressure, cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes, triggers inflammation and disrupts blood flow, increasing the risk of clot formation or blood vessel rupture.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many weeks does it take to rehabilitate a stroke patient?
The timeline for recovery of the stroke patient depends on time since stroke onset, severity of stroke, area of brain injury, age of the patient, health status, comorbidity and commitment of the patient for the rehabilitation program. In general, the patient’s condition improves in 3-6 months of regular therapy, but full rehabilitation may take more time.
Which Ayurveda therapies are employed in stroke rehabilitation?
Ayurveda treatments such as Basti, Nasya, shirodhara, Virechana with physiotherapy, speech therapy etc are administered in the rehabilitation programme.
Can Ayurveda bring the post stroke body back to its old form?
Yes, up to a great extent. In chronic cases, early intervention within 6 months of stroke usually results in better outcomes. Rehabilitation can go a long way when you fix the dosha levels and metabolism. Post-stroke procedures such as panchakarma and Murdha Taila, medicines processed with Vata alleviating herbs, and a properly curated diet and dinacharya (daily routine) will improve quality of life.
How often will I need therapy sessions?
The therapy approach includes an intensive 14-21 days inpatient phase comprising customized Panchakarma procedures, internal medications, physical rehabilitation exercises, diet and lifestyle modifications in the initial phase. Follow-up treatments based on progress and regular assessment of improvements is necessary.
What is Integrative Stroke Rehab? What is different about conventional stroke rehab?
Physiotherapy and speech therapy are the conventional stroke rehab to improve sensory motor functions. In addition to all modalities covered in conventional rehab, Integrative Stroke Rehab includes Panchakarma therapy, Internal Ayurveda medications, Dietary support and lifestyle modifications. It is a complementary approach to a faster recovery.
What can be done for a patient who is bedridden?
Specialized treatments are given to bedridden patients to prevent bed sores, maintain joint mobility, strengthen muscles, improve circulation and support basic functions. Caregiver training, regular physiotherapy and positioning techniques can also be provided.
