Parkinson's treatment Options

Ayurvedic management :

Ayurvedic management for this condition mostly revolves around the pacification of the vitiated vata. For the same, one should begin their treatment session with oleation (snehana) and fomentation (swedana). Oleation can be obtained through many means, but massage (abhyanga), intake of oil/fatty substances (internal oleation), and enema (basti) can yield better results. In order to withstand such treatment regimens, the digestive fire, or jatharagni as Ayurveda calls it, should be strong. If the patient has considerable amatva and has the body strength to tolerate purification therapies, mild internal cleansing can be given first.

Oil/ghee processed with Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and Bala (Sida cordifolia) are the popular choices of medicines used for relieving the strained vata. They have powerful rejuvenating abilities and are proven to be helpful in repairing and nourishing the nervous system. The herb atmagupta (Mucuna pruriens – also known as Kapikacchu) too has received a lot of attention historically and again in recent years. Ayurveda believes that a holistic approach can yield better chances against Parkinsonism.

Diet and regimen :

The diet and regimen you follow can go a long way when it comes to Parkinson’s management. Gradual but considerable success can be achieved by maintaining a vata-pacifying diet and properly guided dietary habits. Other ideal vata-alleviating practices include daily oil massage or abhyanga (either by the patient or practitioner).
