According to Ayurveda, an imbalance in the Vata and Kapha doshas causes a frozen shoulder, known as Apabahuka. It is also known as adhesive capsulitis and involves stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint. The shoulder consists of three bones that create a ball-and-socket joint: the upper arm bone (humerus), the shoulder blade (scapula), and the collarbone (clavicle). Surrounding these bones is tissue known as the shoulder capsule, which keeps the joint intact. A frozen shoulder occurs when the capsule of connective tissue surrounding the shoulder joint thickens and tightens, limiting its movement.
