FAQs
Does shortness of breath always mean there is a problem with the lungs?
No, breathlessness can also be caused by anaemia, heart conditions or anxiety, among other causes. The symptoms and when they occur can help a doctor decide what needs to be checked.
Why do I feel breathless even when I walk a short distance?
Getting breathless during activities that you used to manage comfortably can be a sign of an underlying health problem, including anaemia or a heart or lung condition. If this is new or keeps happening, get it checked rather than assuming it is due to age or lack of fitness.
Is Tamaka Shwasa the same as asthma?
These home remedies will reduce your chest congestion: Honey and Black Pepper: Mix one teaspoon of honey with a pinch of freshly ground black pepper. This combination reduces kapha and clears respiratory passages. Ginger-Pepper Decoction: Boil sliced ginger and crushed pepper along with a little amount of jaggery and 10 - 15 Tulasi leaves in water for 10 minutes. This decoction helps reduce inflammation and loosen phlegm.
Can Ayurveda help with long-term breathing problems?
Ayurveda can be considered alongside conventional treatment after the cause of the breathing problem has been assessed. The appropriate approach depends on the condition, and prescribed inhalers or other medicines should not be stopped without medical advice.
Can I practise Pranayama if I often feel breathless?
Check with your doctor before starting, especially if you have asthma, COPD or a heart condition. Avoid forceful breathing exercises, and seek medical help rather than practising Pranayama when breathlessness is sudden or severe.
