Avascular necrosis (AVN) refers to the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply. When the blood flow to a particular area is compromised, it leads to the deterioration and eventual death of the affected tissue, resulting in dysfunction of the joint. The most commonly affected areas are the femoral head, humeral head, knee joint, and talus bone.
