Psoriasis, a chronic skin disorder, is understood in Ayurveda as a manifestation of dosha imbalances affecting the rasa, rakta, and mamsa dhatus, as well as the body’s deeper tissues. In modern science, it is recognized as a proliferative disorder characterized by an abnormally high rate of skin cell production. Ayurveda attributes this to vitiated Vata, which can worsen during winter and increase skin proliferation and scaling. Stress and climatic conditions, particularly cold weather, are common aggravating factors.
