Guidelines:

TIME:

1. Morning is the ideal time to exercise as your body naturally has more strength, stamina, and coordination. Ayurveda states morning as kapha kaal in which body has a natural capacity for a workout. 2. The Middle of the day is no time for exercising, the middle of the day is time for eating as your ability to digest food is increasing and your body’s capacity for physical activity is in decline. Avoid exercising in the middle of the day. 3. Strenuous exercise in the evening is not advised. In the evening it is best to participate in gentle activities that promote restful sleep. Heavy physical activity in the evening leads to Vata imbalance which leads to complaints of lack of sleep, disturbed sleep and anxiety.

Intensity:

The essence of Ayurveda principle of exercise is to exert yourself to half of your maximum strength or capacity. This Ayurveda principle is called balaardh. Balaardh helps to maintain a consistent energy through your workout. One of the most fundamental principles of Ayurveda is that we have a unique body and mind constitution with distinct traits. One should design that exercise regimen which is in harmony to this distinctive body – mind constitution.
