A study involving more than 16,000 people found that the activity of about 4,000 of those genes appears to be affected by the season, researchers reported in the journal Nature Communications. The findings could help explain why certain diseases are more likely than others to strike for the first time during certain seasons, the researchers say.

Researchers do not know how the seasons affect our genes. But there are some obvious possibilities is what they conclude.

“The fact that they find so many genes that go up and down over the seasons is very interesting because we just didn’t know that our bodies go through this type of seasonal change before,” says Akhilesh Reddy, who studies circadian rhythms at the University of Cambridge.

Ayurveda already has an answer to their unsolved research.

Ayurveda has finely detailed the seasons and their schedules, prominent Doshas and Rasas and its health implications both on body and mind. Ayurveda prescribes diet and behaviour to prevent diseases. Here the article talks about the ups and downs of genes in seasons which are thought to be responsible for the diseases. Ayurveda goes a step further to explain that Vata- Pitta- Kapha pass through the cycle of accumulation- aggravation- reduction in each season. And recommends seasonal regimen for the prevention. If the diet – mode of living and routine are not adjusted so as to keep the equilibrium of the doshas, diseases are certain to occur. Ayurveda also describes the concept of Ritu Sandhi i.e.,transition of seasons.During this period body is more susceptible to diseases. A slight change in season may disrupt the harmony of doshas. So utmost care should be taken during this period.
