Avascular Necrosis (AVN), or Asthi Majja Gata Vata in Ayurveda, is a condition where the bone tissue degenerates due to a lack of blood supply, cutting off essential nutrients and oxygen. It most commonly affects the femoral head but can also impact knees, elbows, and ankles. Early stages of AVN do not show any symptoms, but as the condition progresses, joint pain, restricted movement, and difficulty in walking or climbing stairs become prominent. Direct causes include radiation, blood disorders, injuries, excessive corticosteroid use, alcohol consumption, chemotherapy, and autoimmune diseases, while indirect factors involve prolonged steroid use and high alcohol intake.
