Ayurveda Pregnancy Care for Month 9

In the 9th month of pregnancy, the focus shifts towards preparing the pelvis and reproductive system for a smooth and natural labor (Sukha Prasava). Along with the recommended diet, Ayurveda prescribes specialized procedures to facilitate easy and efficient labor while minimizing discomfort. Anuvasana Basti, an oil enema administered rectally, helps lubricate the birth canal, easing pain, and preventing prolonged labor. It also aids in smooth contractions and a quicker delivery process. Another key practice is Yoni Pichu, where a tampon dipped in medicated oil or ghee is introduced into the vagina for 7 to 14 days. This process lubricates the vaginal canal, preventing abrasions and unnecessary bleeding, while also softening and thinning the cervix, ensuring proper dilation for the baby’s passage. Additionally, it stimulates the Ferguson Reflex, triggering the release of oxytocin, the hormone responsible for uterine contractions, thereby facilitating natural labor. These time-tested Ayurvedic techniques ensure the mother’s body is well-prepared for labor, promoting a safe and comfortable birthing experience.
