Brief Medical History

A 26-year-old female patient walked into Apollo AyurVAID with the complaints of inter personal difficulties and negative thoughts and negative cultural conditions. It was accompanied by mood swing, episodes of violent behaviour and outbursts, disturbed sleep and amenorrhoea since the last 6 months of pregnancy.

In view of her symptoms and condition, Apollo AyurVAID decided to use the treatment of ‘Paittika unmadam and Garbhini’ for a period of 8 days along with a duration of follow up that would last for six months.

The medical strategy adopted included:

  • Nidra nasha was managed which was associated with unmadam by padaabhyangam and thalam.
  • Vatapittaharam was provided as internal medication for garbha paripalana.
  • The Manojanya vikaras were managed by Sirodhara.

The treatment was a success and at the time of discharge the mood swing was managed and reasonably controlled by Siro dhara, Thalam and Paada abhyangam. Nidra had improved with the treatment.

Findings & Conclusions:

Psychological conditions such as these wherein there is a need of sedatives will certainly affect the growth of the foetus. So in such conditions, effective ayurvedic treatments which go hand in hand even for the nourishment of the foetus, along with proper counseling and psychotherapy is said to yield good results.
