What is GOUT?

Gout, often called the rich man’s disease, as it was thought to be caused by a “rich diet”, dominant in meat, is a medical condition usually characterized by recurrent attacks of acute inflammatory arthritis—a red, tender, hot, swollen joint.

The most commonly affected joint is the joint at the base of the big toe (between the foot and the big toe), called Podagra. Other joints, such as the heels, knees, wrists and fingers, may also be affected.

Gout is caused due to deposition of uric acid in the joints.
