Chikungunya

Chikungunya is an arthropod borne viral disease caused by the Aedes mosquito and is characterized by sudden onset of fever and severe pain in more than one joint. As with dengue, recovery from chikungunya is the norm, although rehabilitation can be drawn out (from one year or more) and joint pain may necessitate the use of analgesics and long-term anti-inflammatory medication. The signs and symptoms of Chikungunya are similar to Sannipataja Jwara or Agantuja Jwara, characterized by joint disorders and fever as primary indicators. This condition arises from an imbalance of Vata and Pitta doshas, with occasional  Kapha involvement. The sudden onset of high fever represents a Pitta imbalance, while the severe joint pain and stiffness indicate Vata vitiation. Treatment typically aims to alleviate fever, reduce joint inflammation, manage pain, and restore overall balance to the body’s systems.
