Ayurveda Regimen for Sukhaprasava

As we continue our pregnancy series with our expert Ayurveda gynecologist, we now reach the final phase—labor. Sukhaprasava refers to a smooth and natural childbirth with minimal assistance. Labor is a natural process, and Ayurveda emphasizes a dedicated diet and lifestyle regimen throughout pregnancy to facilitate it. The dietary regimen begins in the first month itself, as outlined in Masanumasika Garbhini Paricharya, under the guidance of an Ayurveda physician. Specific procedures start from the 8th month, including herbal formulations administered rectally to support the baby’s downward movement and positioning within the pelvic bone. In the 9th month, two key procedures—Anuvasana Basti and Matra Basti—are introduced, both involving medicated oil enemas to ease labor.
